SUMMARY:Murder\, Margaret & Me - Wednesday Evening
DESCRIPTION:Philip Meeks – full-length\, dark comedy \nQueen of Crime\, Agatha Christie didn’t want Margaret Rutherford to bring her fabled spinster to life. And Margaret Rutherford was mortified at the prospects of sullying her reputation with something as sordid as murder… \nThis is the story of the real reason why the acting legend and “the funniest woman alive” didn’t want to take on the role that made her celebrated across the world. Margaret and Agatha form an unlikely friendship filled with high tea\, brandy snaps and gossip. Meanwhile Agatha turns detective herself and she’s on a mission. She’s determined to unearth Rutherford’s tragic and shocking secret.

SUMMARY:The Railway Children - Sunday Matinee
DESCRIPTION:Mike Kenny’s imaginative stage adaptation of E. Nesbit’s much-loved children’s classic. \nFamously filmed\, this story of a prosperous Edwardian family – mother and three children – forced into near-penury in the rural north of England captures the anxieties and exhilarations of childhood with great tenderness and insight. \nAs Mike Kenny says of his remarkably faithful adaptation\, ‘You don’t need a real train to perform this play… the most powerful prop is the imagination of the audience\, the most effective tool the skill of the actors.’ So this version of The Railway Children\, which offers three plum roles for young performers\, is eminently suitable for schools\, youth theatres and drama groups – anywhere\, in fact\, where the cry of ‘Daddy! My Daddy!’ is likely to provoke a tear. \nMike Kenny’s version of The Railway Children was first staged at the National Railway Museum in York in 2008\, before receiving a major production at Waterloo Station in London in 2010.

SUMMARY:Blood Brothers (play version) Saturday
DESCRIPTION:The story of the two differing lives of fraternal twins Mickey and Eddie\, separated by a secret pact between Mrs Johnston\, their mother and Mrs Lyons\, her employer\, is told. \nHow chance has thrown them together through the years\, from the moment they swear their allegiance as boyhood ‘blood brothers’ and into adulthood.    Their family lives could not be more different\, Mrs Johnston a struggling single parent raises Micky with his numerous elder siblings.  Mrs Lyons a housewife\, whose husband works away and who cannot have children of her own\, cherishes her Edward who is given nothing but the best.  She is determined that the circumstances of the boys’ birth should be kept from him\, fearing the consequences. \nThe childhood pursuits\, give way to teenage longings and love for a girl called Linda.  Eddie’s life moves on with success.  Mickey and Linda struggle to make ends meet.  As they mature\, the differences between Eddie and Mickey become more marked.  Eddie reaches out to help.  Mickey resents his interference and his lasting friendship with Linda. \nIn a final\, dramatic confrontation involving the mothers\, the truth comes out and the boys’ fate is sealed.

SUMMARY:Bouncers
DESCRIPTION:Bursting with imagination and wit and presented by just four actors\, Bouncers is an outrageous and hilarious parody of the disco scene. The four brutish bouncers of the title portray over twenty different characters as we are invited for a night out on the town. We see them as giggly girls and lads on the make preparing for the big night out as we follow their progress to the disco floor. There\, we also meet an entire cross-section of disco-goers\, including Hooray Henrys\, pogoing punks and drunken slobs! The evening’s events are set against the tatty glitzy glamour\, flashing lights and pulsating beat of the nightclub scene. An exhilarating night out for all concerned. `Consistently entertaining.’ – Evening Standard. `Bouncers is brilliant.’ – Daily Mail.

SUMMARY:Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Exmouth Players (CIO) presents “Quartet”\, a comedy by Ronald Harwood\, at The Blackmore Theatre from Mon 24th to Sat 29th September 2018\, including a Matinee performance on Sat 29th September. \nCecily\, Reggie and Wilfred reside in a home for retired opera singers in Kent\, England.  Each year\, on the tenth of October\, there is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday.  Jean\, once married to Reggie\, arrives at the home and disrupts their equilibrium. She still acts like a diva and refuses to sing. But the show must go on in this funny and poignant play. \nThis play was first directed by Christopher Morahan at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre\, Guildford prior to its West End opening at the Albery Theatre (now the Noel Coward Theatre) on 8 September 1999 starring Sir Donald Sinden\, Alec McCowen\, Stephanie Cole and Angela Thorne.  Following a four-month run it closed on 8  January 2000. \nA regional tour from June to August 2010 enjoyed success with Michael Jayston as Reggie\, Timothy West as Wilfred\, Susannah York as Jean\, and Gwen Taylor as Cecily. \nThe play was adapted as a film by Harwood himself in 2012. It  was directed by Dustin Hoffman.  The principal cast included Maggie Smith as Jean\, Tom Courtenay as Reg\, Pauline Collins as Cissy and Billy Connolly as Wilfred. \nThis amateur production of “Quartet” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH\, LTD. \n“An unashamed – no\, shameless – vehicle for four feisty old troupers whose task is to make us laugh a little\, sigh a little and cry a little as they take us into the bittersweet world of facing up to age and mortality.” – The Independent. \nCast \nWilf –  Brian Lawless \nReggie – Raymond Tongue \nCissy – Wendy Bishop \nJean – Joyce Pomeroy \n\nTickets (Now on Sale) \nTickets:  £8 Mon and £10 for the rest of the week\, including the Saturday Matinee. \nBuy 10 tickets and get one free. \nCoach parties are welcome. \nPlease call Ticket Line 07484 509514  \nTheatre Box Office opens daily (except Sundays) from 17th Sept – 9.30am-1.00pm \nOur Theatre Box Office will be open about 45 minutes before each performance\, but please don’t leave booking to chance.  We always advise you to book in advance by contacting the Ticker Line (above) immediately following the ticket release date. \nOur Theatre Bar will be open from 6.45pm (evening performances only)\, so why not pop along for a pre-show drink and order your interval drinks at the same time.  The Bar will also be open at the end of each of the evening performances.
