SUMMARY:Quartet
DESCRIPTION:The Exmouth Players (CIO) presents “Quartet”\, a comedy by Ronald Harwood\, at The Blackmore Theatre from Mon 24th to Sat 29th September 2018\, including a Matinee performance on Sat 29th September. \nCecily\, Reggie and Wilfred reside in a home for retired opera singers in Kent\, England.  Each year\, on the tenth of October\, there is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday.  Jean\, once married to Reggie\, arrives at the home and disrupts their equilibrium. She still acts like a diva and refuses to sing. But the show must go on in this funny and poignant play. \nThis play was first directed by Christopher Morahan at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre\, Guildford prior to its West End opening at the Albery Theatre (now the Noel Coward Theatre) on 8 September 1999 starring Sir Donald Sinden\, Alec McCowen\, Stephanie Cole and Angela Thorne.  Following a four-month run it closed on 8  January 2000. \nA regional tour from June to August 2010 enjoyed success with Michael Jayston as Reggie\, Timothy West as Wilfred\, Susannah York as Jean\, and Gwen Taylor as Cecily. \nThe play was adapted as a film by Harwood himself in 2012. It  was directed by Dustin Hoffman.  The principal cast included Maggie Smith as Jean\, Tom Courtenay as Reg\, Pauline Collins as Cissy and Billy Connolly as Wilfred. \nThis amateur production of “Quartet” is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH\, LTD. \n“An unashamed – no\, shameless – vehicle for four feisty old troupers whose task is to make us laugh a little\, sigh a little and cry a little as they take us into the bittersweet world of facing up to age and mortality.” – The Independent. \nCast \nWilf –  Brian Lawless \nReggie – Raymond Tongue \nCissy – Wendy Bishop \nJean – Joyce Pomeroy \n\nTickets (Now on Sale) \nTickets:  £8 Mon and £10 for the rest of the week\, including the Saturday Matinee. \nBuy 10 tickets and get one free. \nCoach parties are welcome. \nPlease call Ticket Line 07484 509514  \nTheatre Box Office opens daily (except Sundays) from 17th Sept – 9.30am-1.00pm \nOur Theatre Box Office will be open about 45 minutes before each performance\, but please don’t leave booking to chance.  We always advise you to book in advance by contacting the Ticker Line (above) immediately following the ticket release date. \nOur Theatre Bar will be open from 6.45pm (evening performances only)\, so why not pop along for a pre-show drink and order your interval drinks at the same time.  The Bar will also be open at the end of each of the evening performances.
